Father Hunger: Why God calls men to love and lead their families, by Douglas Wilson is a must read for all men period. This year I have seen a gamut of books, movies, conferences, sermons and articles on the subject of Father Hood. This book is one of the diamonds in the ruff. (I’m not saying that all the other father stuff isn't good, it’s just that this one tops them all.) Douglas Wilson is a fascinating writer and he is well versed on the topic’s relating to family, particularly the father. The subtitle presupposes that men are to love and lead, and this is their calling from God. Douglas says that if men are not doing these things they are “walking away from their assigned masculine identity.” He paints a spectacular picture of how the father’s role reflects to our children a picture of our heavenly Father.
This book is packed with Scripture, current research, and wonderful illustrations, which caused me not to want to put it down. As I sit here scanning the pages; I find myself wanting to read it again. I can’t recommend this book enough. So be a man…get a copy! Ladies this would make a great present for birthday, father’s day, or just to say I love you. I would encourage fathers to really look at the information that is given and heed to the advice in Father Hunger. Who knows this could be the cure to end world starvation!
